The South African National Editors’ Forum is excited to introduce a new award for the community media industry, the Moses Moyo Award, in memory of the late community media journalist Moses Moyo who passed away in October 2018. He was the founder of the popular Inner City Gazette and a long standing, SANEF council member. He was deeply passionate and committed to strengthening media freedom.
The Moses Moyo Award recognizes any community media practitioner – journalist, editor, manager or owner – who has:
- Shown bravery in covering issues that affect South African communities;
- Displayed commitment to strengthening the community media industry; and
- Shown dedication to ensuring the sustainability of community media and bringing to the fore challenges facing this section of the industry.

The ceremony for the Moses Moyo Award for brave and courageous journalism will be held at the Nat Nakasa Award gala dinner on Saturday 22 June 2019.
