SANEF was formed to promote and defend the four cornerstones of an effective South African media industry – excellence in journalism, freedom of the press, ethical conduct and diversity.

SANEF has set up a number of sub-committees to take the work of the forum forward. These committees include the following:

• Education and training
• Diversity and ethics
• Community media
• Safety and wellness
• Access to information and regulatory
