Privacy Policy

We collect information in two main ways: actively from you; and passively from your device. We take industry-standard security measures to protect the personal information provided to us, and will not use the personal information in a manner inconsistent with the purposes for which you provided it to us.

We use cookies to help improve our service to you. You have the option to be notified when you receive a cookie, adjust the cookie settings or refuse the cookie altogether (although this may limit some functions on the site).

Our commitment to you: The South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF) is committed to respecting and protecting your right to privacy, and strives to collect as little personal information as possible. We are also committed to your right to view and request copies, deletion and modification of the personal information that we collect from you – contact us to start exercising these rights.

This policy sets out what personal information we collect, how we collect it, why we collect it and how we use it. This policy does not apply to other parties’ websites, including websites that may be linked to or from our site, as well as social media websites (such as Facebook and Twitter) that have their own privacy policies.

Collection of personal information: We collect your personal information in two main ways: (i) actively from you; and (ii) passively from the device that you use to access and navigate through our site. In relation to the active collection of personal information, this may include requiring you to submit certain information to register for a particular service, request to receive information or participate in a particular activity; answer specific questions, for instance through a feedback form or questionnaire; or maintaining a record of correspondence. In relation to the passive collection of information, this may include the use of server loggers, cookies or anonymous identifiers. In relation to the passive collection of personal information, we use cookies and anonymous identifiers which enable our computer system to recognise you when you next visit our site and improve our service to you. Specifically, we use Google Analytics to enhance our user experience (UX).

Storage and usage of personal information: We take industry standard security measures to protect personal information under our control from loss, misuse and breach, but as is the case with every website, there are risks associated with uploading your information online.

We will not use personal information that you provide to us in a manner inconsistent with the purposes for which you provided it to us. Furthermore, we do no sell, rent or lease personal information.

Cookies: A cookie is a tiny element of data that our site can send to your browser, which may then be stored on your hard drive and save user preferences and other information. We use cookies for a limited number of purposes, including to analyse usage of our site; ensure that our records are complete, accurate and up to date; compile aggregate information about your access to and use of the site; and, most importantly, better administer and improve the site for your use.

If you are concerned about your privacy and the use of cookie technology you may set your web browser to notify you when you receive a cookie. You may also set your browser to refuse the cookies our site attempts to send you (although this may result in you not being able to enjoy all of the site features and functionality).

Data transfers: The data that we collect may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside of South Africa. We will seek to ensure that data remains within jurisdictions with adequate protections for personal information, or that we have agreements in place to seek to ensure legally enforceable commitment to protect the personal information transferred. By submitting your personal information, you agree to this transfer, storage and processing.
