SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL EDITORS’ FORUM ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AND NAT NAKASA AWARDS FOR COURAGEOUS JOURNALISM: JULY 9, 2016 JOHANNESBURG
Sanef will hold its annual general meeting on Saturday July 9 at the PowerFM 98.7 offices in Houghton, Johannesburg. The main issues before the AGM relate to increasing attacks on journalists by either community members, thugs or even police officers who are increasingly forcing photographers and journalists to delete pictures of unrest situations.
The AGM will also look at the role of media in the fight against racism, with the scene being set by Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Advocate Matodzi Masutha. He will speak on the National Action Plan against racism and the role that media can play. Minister Masutha is scheduled to speak at 11am.
Later that evening Sanef will host the annual Nat Nakasa Awards for courageous journalism at the Sunnyside Hotel in Parktown. The guest speaker at the ceremony will be Retired Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke.
