Sanef welcomes decision to open Cricket SA inquiry
The South African National Editors’ Forum (Sanef) welcomes the decision by Justice Chris Nicholson to open the inquiry into the financial affairs of Cricket South Africa (CSA) to the media.
This is a matter of immense public concern, and we are glad that journalists will now be afforded a full opportunity to report on the progress of the hearings.
Our lawyers met with Judge Nicholson to express our concern on Wednesday after it emerged that the hearings were to be held behind closed doors.
Judge Nicholson pointed out that he had felt the venue was too small to accommodate the media but has undertaken to halt the process until larger premises is found.
Sanef believes there is massive public interest in the hearing and lauds Judge Nicholson for recognising how important it is for the inquiry to be transparent.
